The Firstcut CNC Part Process
Firstcut uses proprietary software running on large-scale computers (2 trillion floating point operations per second) to translate your 3D CAD design into instructions for high speed CNC milling equipment. The result is we can ship small quantities (1–10) of FUNCTIONAL parts very fast — typically within 1–3 business days.
Computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining of parts (plastic or otherwise) has been around for decades. But until Firstcut came along, the non-recurring engineering required to design the required toolpaths has always limited the ability of the CNC machining process to produce prototype volumes with short lead times. Well, this is no longer the case. You can now get the responsiveness you’ve come to expect from additive rapid prototyping processes without having to live with their limited material choices or stair-step surface finishes. The parts made by Firstcut can be nearly indistinguishable from moulded parts, making them a significantly higher quality prototype part.

Firstcut has extended its CNC machining process to include aluminium. Parts can now be ordered in 6082-T651 and 7075-T651 aluminium. Two surface finishes are available: "as machined", or a light bead blast.
